It was there, during the thirty years he spent with his family in exile, that he wrote his greatest work Das Kapital. Victorian London was then the most prosperous city in the world and it provided Marx with a model for studying the laws of capitalism and political economy which led to an understanding of how a working-class revolution might be brought about. In London Marx met and exchanged ideas with many other exiled European revolutionaries and it was there that his lifelong friendship with his collaborator Engels developed. Life was hard for Marx and his large family but at least, in Britain, he could live and work undisturbed by the British authorities.' (från baksidestexten)
