Baksidestext:
Internal Exiles is Dermot Bolger's fourth collection of poems, his first from the Dolmen Press. Born in Finglas, Dublin in 1959, Dermot Bolger was a co-founder of Raven Arts Press which he now directs. His novel Nightshift was published by Brandon in 1985.
The poems in Internal Exile reflect the writer's concerns for life in Ireland today as reflected in a historical background which overides the boundaries of the state. Editing a selection of Bolger's work in The Inherited Boundaries (Dolmen 1986), Sebastian Barry comments: Dermot Bolger is a new phenomenon in the literature of the Republic. He is an often frightening bearer of an Ireland without historical resonance, the part that is at the same time most local (the crippled housing-estates of North Dublin) and most European (his poems are probably signals from all such places: the scattered kingdom of the newest lost tribe) and even International.
